NOC Joins Lawsuit Challenging GE Labeling Rules

The National Organic Coalition has joined the Center for Food Safety (a NOC member), PCC Community Markets (a NOC member), Natural Grocers (a NOC Network Affiliate), and other retailers and non-profits in ongoing litigation challenging the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) "bioengineered" (more commonly known as "genetically engineered") food labeling rule.

As the lawsuit explains, the "bioengineered" food rule will unlawfully leave the majority of genetically engineered foods unlabeled. The lawsuit was also recently amended to challenge the law's prohibition on states' labeling of genetically engineered seeds, preventing consumers and farmers from knowing if seeds are genetically engineered.
