NOC Condemns Violence at the Capitol
Today, on inauguration day, NOC would like to express our hope for a peaceful transition of power. We condemn the violent acts that took place on January 6 at the Capitol and took the lives of five people, destroyed federal property, assaulted Capitol police officers, and threatened the lives of lawmakers and the US democratic process.
Peaceful protest is a central part of our democracy, but violence and insurrection undermine our democracy and should not be tolerated. NOC is alarmed by the stark difference in the law enforcement response to peaceful protests led by Black Lives Matter and the response to and lack of preparation for the far-right insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on January 6.
The claims of election fraud by President Trump and other lawmakers are baseless, and this misinformation fueled this insurrection.
NOC stands with others in the agricultural community who have condemned this violence and we reaffirm our commitment to our democratic institutions, voting rights, the will of American voters, and racial equity. Here are statements from colleagues in the agricultural community who are speaking out:
