NOC Oral Testimony to the NOSB
Last week, NOC’s team and NOC members delivered oral testimony to the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB). We thank the NOSB members for their time listening to oral testimony, and the NOP for organizing a smooth virtual event.
NOC’s comments included:
Thanking the Board for their letter to Secretary Vilsack, highlighting the important role for organic agriculture in mitigating climate change
Urging the NOSB to prohibit ammonia extracts and to limit use of high nitrogen fertilizers
A call for increased transparency regarding NOSB recommendations that have not been implemented and reducing barriers to service on the NOSB
Urging the NOSB to deny the petition to add biochar from cow manure to the National List
Urging the NOSB to vote no on adding Kasugamycin, an antibiotic, to the National List
Recommending that the petition for Zein be denied
A request that the NOSB create a subcommittee focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Asking the Board to continue their work on oversight improvements to deter fraud
Asking the Board to uphold the NOSB’s prior recommendation (2016) to remove carrageenan from the National List
